Becoming An Artist

Becoming An Artist

Becoming An Artist. First a little background on myself and how I got here and became an artist. I started painting years and years ago as a child because I couldn’t help myself and because I loved it. Later in my adult life I restarted painting because I needed to have something for my brain and hands to do so I wouldn’t loose my mind. Becoming an artist is great therapy for your heart and soul. Whatever your reason to paint it doesn’t matter, just paint. Paint ugly, paint silly, paint with your fingers, your toes, even you nose, or paint beautifully (most of us don’t paint beautifully when starting out just saying) but either way you must paint and paint often to become a good painter and to become an artist. What do I mean by often? Daily painting is my idea of often. I know, I know, you think no way can I paint daily, but yes you can. Buy cheap little value canvas’s at your local craft shop and a few colors to start off with and find a flower, a leaf, an apple, a bug, a toilet paper roll, or anything and just paint it. It really doesn’t matter whether its good or not, in fact its really okay if its not, I paint junk all the time so I know, don’t let that get out haha. If you come into painting with the thought that you will create wonderful amazing artwork right away you will get discouraged. It is better to come into painting with the idea that your painting because you love the feel of the brush in the paint and on the canvas and to just have a little fun. If that sounds discouraging its not meant to, its to bring you back to the truth about becoming an artist. Once you are realistic about it you won’t get yourself in a bundle when your first pieces of art don’t go exactly in the direction that you had hoped for, meaning you think they stink lol. Every artist has a pile of ugly painting’s that no one see’s I promise. Very few people wake up one day and whala they are a famous artist. But how can you even begin to become a good painter or even a great painter if you don’t start painting. SO PAINT. If that seems to daunting than pick 3 days a week but you need to paint. Its like teaching yourself to play the piano you must practice, practice, practice. Don’t make excuses or put it off thinking its not important because it is. And do you know why its important because it is for you and we all need something in our life that’s for us that makes us feel worth while. You know who else its for? Its for your family because maybe not today but one day when your gone your children and grandchildren will have something that came from you just for them. Its part of you and your story which makes it part of their story. So now that we have come to an agreement that you will paint with some consistency go to the store and get a few supplies. Don’t go crazy at first, unless your already a Monet, if you are already a Monet than can I please please read your blog, cause I would so love to be a Monet, it would be my dream come true.
